Paralympics chief lodges corruption report over council elections Posted on 14/12/2024 Malaysian Paralympic Council president Megat D Shahriman Zaharudin said he lodged the report to ensure that affiliate members remained uninvolved and untainted by corruption. (Bernama pic) KUALA LUMPUR: A report has been lodged with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission alleging corruption in the election process of the Malaysian Paralympic Council (MPM) ahead of its annual meeting tomorrow. Council president Megat D Shahriman Zaharudin said the report was filed to enable MACC to investigate two influential persons in the national sports scene, who had allegedly engaged in unethical practices and violated the code of conduct during the committee election process. “I lodged this complaint with MACC to initiate an investigation into these two persons to safeguard the integrity, sovereignty, and sanctity of MPM,” he said in a statement. “This is also aimed at ensuring that affiliate members remain uninvolved and untainted by corruption, as every national sports association is a public entity.” He added that he did not want the paralympic council to be linked to any corrupt or unhealthy practices that could jeopardise its credibility. Separately, one of those implicated in the allegations denied any involvement in corrupt practices and expressed willingness to cooperate with any MACC investigation. “I am open to MACC opening an investigation, but if their findings do not implicate me, I will take similar legal action against him (Megat) for tarnishing my reputation,” the person told Bernama. “I am confident that MACC is well-equipped to handle such allegations,” said the individual, who previously held a senior position in the National Sports Council.
