(Facebook pic) PETALING JAYA: The Tangkak district council (MDT) has ordered the immediate closure of an LED lights carnival at Bukit Gambir multipurpose hall following complaints about a rocket replica featuring Chinese flags on its fins. In a statement, MDT said it received a complaint on Dec 25 regarding the display and conducted an investigation. Investigations revealed that the organiser failed to adhere to regulations for organising carnivals, particularly failing to take into account the sensitivities of the local community. “The structure in question was removed, and a notice of immediate cessation of operations was issued to the organiser yesterday, in accordance with Section 14(1)(b) and Section 49(2) of the Licensing Trade, Business, and Industries (Tangkak District Council) By-Laws 2017,” it said. MDT said further monitoring on Dec 26 confirmed that the carnival had been completely shut down, with no activities taking place. “This administration always encourages business activities within the local council’s area, provided that they comply with the relevant conditions. “However, strict action will be taken against businesses that fail to adhere to the conditions, especially those that cause public concern within the local community,” it said. Harian Metro reported that last night police had opened two investigation papers related to the matter. Tangkak police chief Roslan Talib was reported as saying that investigations have been initiated under Section 505 (b) of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998. Gambir assemblyman Sahrihan Jani had earlier demanded stern action against organisers. News
