PETALING JAYA: A 32-year-old motorcyclist was run over and crushed under a runaway lorry in Bangsar South, Kuala Lumpur, yesterday morning. Kuala Lumpur traffic police chief Zamzuri Isa said the incident occurred at about 8.34am yesterday on Jalan Kerinchi headed toward Jalan Pantai Baru. He said the lorry was parked at a construction site and its brake fluid was being topped up, when it suddenly started reversing on its own. Gathering speed, the vehicle rammed through a security gate and careened towards the main road. The victim tried to avoid the oncoming lorry but fell from his motorcycle before he was run over. Zamzuri said the victim was trapped under one of the lorry’s tyres and was pronounced dead at the scene. The rear of the lorry also rammed into a Honda Jazz, but the driver escaped with injuries just on his forehead. The 32-year-old driver of the lorry was arrested on the same day while the case is being investigated for causing death by reckless driving, an offence punishable with a jail term of five to 10 years or a fine up to RM50,000 on conviction.
