Another cat killed by stray dogs in UM Posted on 05/01/2025 A video circulating on TikTok showed a pack of dogs attacking a cat at the UM car park. PETALING JAYA: A cat was killed by a pack of stray dogs at a Universiti Malaya car park last night in the latest in the series of cat-related deaths on campus. Brickfields police chief Ku Mashariman Ku Mahmood said a group of university students spotted the dogs biting the cat at around 1.30am. After chasing the dogs away, they found that the cat had been killed. “They then buried the carcass and lodged a police report,” he said, adding that police would not be investigating the matter. The university has been recently plagued by the deaths of several cats on campus, which has since led to police launching an investigation on Dec 24. Two dead cats were found at the Faculty of Business and Economics on Dec 12 and Dec 16, leading to a report being lodged by the student union on Dec 17. Another report, filed on Dec 20, involved the deaths of four cats at different locations on the campus. Police had previously said it was likely the dead cats had been attacked by stray dogs. An independent animal rescuer challenged the claim, saying that a post-mortem carried out by a private clinic on one of the carcasses found lesions that were highly likely to be caused by sharp objects. Yesterday, Kuala Lumpur deputy police chief Azry Akmar Ayob confirmed that the carcasses of four cats found in UM revealed no signs of human abuse but bore wild animal bites, prompting a fresh probe. He also said the cause of death was confirmed by the veterinary services department following several post-mortems. News
