Customs dept seizes RM35mil in goods in raids around Selangor, KL

PETALING JAYA: Customs officers have seized drugs, electrical goods, ethanol and luxury vehicles worth more than RM35.45 million in separate raids around Selangor and Kuala Lumpur, Bernama reported.

Customs central zone assistant director-general Norlela Ismail said in one of the raids on Oct 3, a courier company warehouse in Bukit Jelutong, Shah Alam, was inspected and officers found 448g of cannabis, valued at RM13,555, in a shipment box.

The package, declared as “customised wedding decor”, was brought in from a country in the Americas. Customs officers are now tracing the recipient of the package.

Officers also inspected seven containers at North Port and seized electrical goods worth RM1.2 million.

Norlela said these goods were believed to have been imported for online sales, with the items falsely declared as TVs, table fan parts and emergency lanterns in order to avoid the requirement to obtain a certificate of approval for import from the Energy Commission.

“Upon inspection, electrical goods such as vacuum cleaners, air fryers, lamps, fans, washing machines, smart TVs, computer monitors, blenders, water dispensers and induction cookers were found.”

In another inspection of a container at Westports on Nov 5, officers seized 160 drums with 26,400 litres of ethanol, believed to be brought in without an import permit, worth RM2.5 million.

In a separate case, seven luxury vehicles valued at RM1 million, including unpaid taxes, were seized following inspections of 29 licensed warehouses around Selangor and Kuala Lumpur under Op Terma, which ran from Oct 7 to 30.

“Among the vehicles seized were Mercedes, Ferraris, Nissan GTRs, Jaguars and Toyota Alphards.

“The offence was the storage of vehicles beyond the allowed storage period,” Norlela said.
