(Facebook pic) PETALING JAYA: The home ministry will conduct a trial of a QR code immigration clearance system at KLIA Terminal 1 and 2 this month in hopes of easing congestion at the nation’s main airport. Home minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said this would involve 40 special lanes at both arrival and departure halls of KLIA Terminal 1 and 2, which could only be used by Malaysians. Saifuddin said it should take between five and seven seconds to clear immigration with the QR code system, compared with between 15 and 25 seconds using the conventional autogates. The QR system would also improve security and efficiency using the latest technology, he said. “Through this QR code system, travellers no longer need to take their passports out to clear immigration. However, they are still required to bring their passports with them on their travels. “Although this new system has been introduced, manual immigration counters and conventional autogates will remain available,” he said in a statement.
