Hajiji calls on GRS to strengthen ties, counter ‘lies’

PETALING JAYA: Gabungan Rakyat Sabah chairman Hajiji Noor has called on all component parties in the coalition to unite in light of recent “underhanded tactics” being deployed to weaken the state government it leads.

Hajiji, who is also the Sabah chief minister, said GRS is facing challenges, including slander and underhanded tactics by irresponsible parties seeking to topple the government.

“All the lies and slander being spread must not only be denied but also decisively countered so that the people are not deceived or influenced by these immoral and unethical attempts to overthrow the government,” he said, according to Bernama.

Hajiji also said he was confident the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) could play a vital role in “combating and resisting dirty tactics used by the opposition”.

“I urge my friends in LDP, as a component party of GRS, to embrace a broader framework of struggle in all movements and actions,” he said during LDP’s convention in Kota Kinabalu today.

Besides LDP, the GRS alliance comprises Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah, Parti Maju Sabah, Parti Bersatu Sabah, Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (STAR), Usno, Harapan Rakyat, and Parti Cinta Sabah.

LDP president Chin Su Phin affirmed the party’s unwavering support for GRS under Hajiji’s leadership to secure victory in the upcoming state election.

He said that with such support, Sabah would continue to enjoy greater autonomy to safeguard the state’s interests, ensure its voice is heard, and its needs met.

“Our mission now is to demonstrate our sincerity in earning the trust of the people. It is crucial to field candidates who can win and gain public support,” he said.

Earlier today, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) confirmed receiving a report on a businessman suspected of being involved in corruption related to a mineral mining project in Sabah.

MACC said preliminary investigations have led to the discovery of information linking several assemblymen from the state to the businessman.

It also said five assemblymen have been summoned to provide their statements and that the investigation is ongoing

Last week, Hajiji said a series of videos implicating Sabah assemblymen in corrupt practices was seemingly being released to destabilise his government.

He insisted that his administration remains “solid” despite the rapidly developing scandal. He also said he has nothing to hide and called on MACC to investigate the case.
