Three people have died and 103,226 have been evacuated to 590 temporary relief centers in nine states as of 8pm, according to the National Disaster Command Centre. In Kedah, the state water supply corporation temporarily ceased operations at seven water treatment plants after water levels at intake points reached a critical stage due to continuous rainfall over the past few days. Bernama reported that water tankers have been deployed to several areas across Padang Terap, Pendang, Kuala Muda, Sik, and Baling which have been hit by unscheduled water supply disruptions. Airline passengers were left stranded at Alor Setar airport today when the runway was flooded, causing flights to be cancelled. The runway was temporarily closed but the airport terminal remained open. Yesterday, deputy prime minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said this year’s floods look set to be the worst in a decade. Malaysia’s worst floods were in 2014, which claimed 21 lives and saw more than 500,000 people evacuated, mainly in Kelantan. News
