(Bernama pic) PETALING JAYA: Thai police have arrested two men who fired shots on Thursday near a security checkpoint along the border in Padang Besar, Perlis. Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain said the two Thai nationals, aged 21 and 28, were detained by the authorities in Songkhla, Thailand, on Friday. He said two General Operations Force personnel on patrol during Op Taring Wawasan Kedah/Perlis heard several gunshots near the border security fence coming from the Thai side at 10.28am on Thursday. “The officers immediately took cover and spotted two men riding a motorcycle on Thai territory. No one was injured,” he told Bernama today. Razarudin said closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage from the scene showed two suspects riding a grey scooter with a Thai registration plate. They had fired at least 10 shots at the Malaysian border using a pistol. The suspects collected the spent cartridges before leaving the scene, he added. Razarudin said the Thai police were immediately alerted to the incident and they arrested the two suspects at two locations in Songkhla, Thailand, at 10.40am the following day. The suspects claimed they had borrowed the pistol from a friend and fired the shots to test the weapon before returning it to their friend. Razarudin said Thai police were now looking for the owner of the firearm. Earlier today, a one-minute video went viral on social media showing two men, believed to be Thais, firing several shots towards the Malaysian border. News
