(File pic) PETALING JAYA: Police say a student from a public university in Parit, Perak, suffered injuries after he was allegedly beaten by three friends at a hostel last Sunday. Perak Tengah police chief Hafezul Helmi Hamzah said the 18-year-old student suffered injuries to his face, arms, and stomach, reported Berita Harian. He said the student had received medical treatment and was reported to be in stable condition. Hafezul said three suspects aged between 18 and 20 were arrested after the victim’s father filed a police report on Tuesday evening. “The suspects were remanded for three days to assist in the investigation and were released today on police bail,” he said. “The incident stemmed from a misunderstanding and provocation between the victim and the suspects in the hostel room.” He added that the case is being investigated for rioting under Section 147 of the Penal Code. This comes as 12 students from Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) were arrested after allegedly assaulting a fellow student. The 12 students, aged 20 to 22, have been remanded until Saturday. They were arrested after a man lodged a police report claiming that his son had been assaulted at UMT’s dormitory between 1am and 5am last Sunday. A medical officer confirmed that the victim had suffered blunt force trauma to his arms, waist, chest, abdomen, and leg. News
